To safely make the most of Bonfire Night, it’s advisable to celebrate at an organised event. Fireworks can be extremely dangerous if not managed and handled properly, and can lead to injury to yourself and others.
If hosting a private event, please celebrate safely and responsibly. Consider everyone’s safety when handling fireworks and sparklers – place used sparklers in a bucket when done, as they may still be hot.
Please also consider the impact of fireworks on the community around you, particularly your neighbours who may have children or pets. Firework misuse incidents can cost the emergency services lifesaving minutes attending other emergencies.
Remember, it is illegal to light or throw fireworks in a public place, and you may be subject to a criminal investigation as a result. You may also be held to the university Code of Conduct , which includes disciplinary routes.
If you have any concerns about the use of fireworks, you can use the following reporting routes:
- In an emergency, call 999
- If you witness suspicious activity, please call 101
- If you are concerned and want support from the university, please report it via Report + Support
