Different ways of cooking eggs

Posted 2 days ago

How do you like your eggs in the morning?

Eggs are probably one of the most versatile foods. You can do so much with them! The best cooking method depends on how you like your yolk - runny or fully set - and how much time you have.

Fried eggs

Fried eggs are the easiest eggs to make - you just crack them in the pan, and that's it! The only thing that varies with fried eggs is how you like your yolks:

  • Sunny-side up: Cooked in a pan on just one side. The yolk remains completely runny, and the whites are gently set.
  • Over easy: Cooked on one side, then carefully flipped. The white is fully cooked, but the yolk remains warm and creamy.
  • Over medium: Similar to over easy, but cooked for slightly longer so the yolk becomes thicker and more jammy-like.

Boiled eggs

These eggs are on the trickier side of cooking eggs because it's all about the timings.

  • Soft-boiled: Boiled for about 5-6 minutes, and you'll get a fully runny yolk!
  • Medium-boiled: Boiled for 7-8 minutes. This gives a slightly thicker, custardy yolk.
  • Hard-boiled: Boiled for 10-12 minutes with both the whites and yolks becoming completely firm. This is ideal for egg salads or prepping for lunch snacks.

Scrambled eggs

Scrambled eggs are a very popular method of cooking eggs and are very simple to make.

  • Classic scrambled: Whisked eggs cooking in a pan over medium heat, gently stirring to form soft curds.(Add in dome double cream when whisking to make creamy scrambled eggs).
  • American Omelette: Eggs are whisked and poured into a pan to form a flat disk with whatever filling you'd like. Once the bottom side is cooked, it's then folded in half.

Other eggs

🥚 Poached: Cracked out of the shell and gently simmered in a pot of hot water for about 4 minutes. The whites should wrap around a runny yolk.

🥚 Baked: Crack eggs into a greased cupcake tray and bake in the oven. These are great for breakfast sandwiches!
